We Are The Haacke Girls!

Jana, Carol & Bonnie

It's been some years since my parents were here to make sure are family get together's took place. It's been hard without them But, here we are the Lincoln & Dolores Haacke Family Reunion! Every summer we get together for dinner, pictures, fun and lots of talk. We had everyone here this year except Jim, who was sick, Jared, Lexi, Joshua and Jesse who were in Arizona, working and going to school. Maybe next year.

Breckan was so cute, he was tickling Megan's face and she was just a laughing. Very cute!

Kate absolutely loved Kell. When she came to our house she didn't look for me, but for Kell. She stayed right by her side. Kell is going to make a wonderful mother some day.

Trip to Liberty Park

We had the girls for a few days while Keith and Sara took a break to Bear Lake. They were the best little girls. Monday, I took the girls to Liberty Park. We took Grandma Nancy along for the ride. I haven't been to Liberty Park in many, many years. A good friend told me about the 7 canyons. It represents the seven major streams that come into the Salt Lake Valley. I have to say when we arrived I had no idea it was so popular. There were children everywhere. Kate was having so much fun exploring, splashing and floating twigs down the stream. Megan just sat and splashed. Kate wanted to stay, but the clouds were moving in and we kept feeling rain drops. We finished off the day with a snow cone and a ride on the Merry-go-round.

I didn't take many pictures, but it's a great place.
I really hated having the girls go home. Yes, I was tired, but they brought such joy to our home. Kate is so independant and says the funniest things. Megan is so good natured. She smiles and giggles and loves watching her big sister play. We got them both jumping on the bed and giggling so hard - I just laughed and laughed. Thanks for letting us take the girls Keith and Sara.

Summer Activities!

Five weeks into summer and I am finally getting to post some of my happenings. The time is flying fast.
I began my summer with Girls Camp! Our stake put in 3 years ago for Heber Valley Girls Camp and this year it was our turn. I really wasn't sure what to expect. There were plenty of activities that the camp provides, and because our youth didn't get a camp last year we planned our week a little different this year.
We stayed in the Lucy Mac Smith Camp ground. It has 5 separate camp sites and our stake used 4 of them. Each camp spot had 3 cabins that slept 16 and their own cooking stations equipped with two gas grills, running water, and a refrigerator and storage area. There was a bathroom/shower house for every two camp sites. We had 2 wards in each camp site. Plus, we had the main lodge where us stake people slept; we also had our own bathroom and shower room, a huge kitchen with a walk in fridge and freezer, and a large room to have activities and eat. It was amazing!

This is where the 10th (our ward) and the 3rd ward stayed.

This is the main lodge.

Becky, Bonnie, Kathy, Dorthy, Myra
We arrived early and got settled in and ready to meet the buses and begin our day. On our drive up the canyon, my cell phone rang; it was Kathy; she said that Joy was bringing all the food up in her van when her engine blew - she was stuck at Kimball junction. She was right by a car dealers place. They said it didn't look good so they sent her down the street to a car rental. They were very good to help her. They rented her a van for $50.00. She loaded the van from hers, drove to camp, unloaded and returned the van. What a morning. I felt so bad for her. She is such a trooper. And thanks to Becky, who followed her down the mountain to bring her back.

The buses finally arrived and we went out to great our young women. They were so excited.

After getting settled in and meeting with the camp missionaries to give all the girls and leaders their instructions we headed for the Challenge Course. The leaders were trained just before the girls arrived and put to work instructing the different courses for the young women. The best out of all of the challenges was the zip line. The courses ended sooner than had planned so they had time for any of the leaders who would like the opportunity to do the zip line. I had never done it before and really wanted to give it a try. It took all the strength I had just to climb the log. By the time I got to the top to go across the rope my legs and arms were shaking so bad I'm just grateful I made it.
So many spiritual parallels were made on the challenge course. Each experience at camp reminded us of our purpose here in life, and the love our Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ has for us, and that they will always be there to help us.
We have the Best Youth. They are much more spiritualy prepared than I ever remember being. They were truly saved for these latter days.

Myra at the top of the climb. (This took the most strength out of me.)

Kathy, walking across the line.

President McReynolds enjoying the ride down.

I didn't get a picture of me going down, but as I stood at the top trying to step off I told the sister she would either have to push me off or let me stay with her. I hate heights - but I'm sure glad I tried it. It was amazing!

10th Ward YW - playing a game. I wish I could remember what it was called - it was fun.

This was one of the three lectures the camp provides for the girls. One teaches about the camp in general, how the property was obtained and about the building and dedication. One, talks about all the wild life and plants around the area, and the last talks about the Sister who the camp ground you are in was named after. We were in the Lucy Mac Smith campground.

We were on a hike with the 3rd and 10th wards.

Our company tree hugger.

Becky and I

I loved the lake experience. When we arrived there was a large moose across the lake just splashing around have a good old time. I took a picture but he was too far away to see.

Gum Girl!!

All the girls were put in canoes and the leaders in the paddle boats. When everyone was out on the lake they had a 2 minute silence followed by everyone singing I Feel My Saviors Love. It brought tears to my eyes. Being in that beautiful setting and spirit bore testimony to me of all the God has given us. The missionaries call this mountain a Temple without a roof. It is a beautiful, and spiritual place.

This is Dorthy and Myra.

How I love the ladies I serve with. They are truly my back up Angles (they know what I mean)! We had some great times at camp. Our nights were spent talking and laughing, reading the scriptures and having some spiritual discussions, playing games and totaly enjoying ourselves. These are women I would entrust my life to.

We had Moose and Deer come right into to camp. Most the time the would just stand and look at you.

Our last night we fixed dinner for everyone and had a fireside in the lodge before our ward testimony meetings. As we were setting up for dinner the 6th ward came in to practice the song they were going to sing at the fireside. "We Believe". It was beautiful, as they sang tears streamed down my face. It was heavenly angles singing. What an awesome night. It was a spiritual feast.

Later that night as I knelt down to say my prayers I heard this scratching noise. When I looked in the trap at the foot of my bed this little mouse, with one foot in the sticky trap, was trying to claw his way out. I HATE MICE! I knew by morning he would escape and find some way to freak me out so Myra, pulling the trap and Becky, making sure he didn't get out, took the trap outside to spend the night. We had a good laugh even though it was very, very, very late.

Oh, and the mouse was still there in the morning. Alive!

The missionaries were awesome! They road around on their 4 wheels and took care of everything. They were so fun to work with and I loved getting to know them better and all about their missionary service. That's where I want to serve a mission with my hubby.

Best of Friends

Fran Astorga, Ben Ashby, Keith Hadlow, Mike Howard, Lucky Mercer, Cory Hunter

All through their school years these men were best of friends. They saw each other through the best of times and the worst of times. Each served a mission and have all stayed the best of friends as they have began their families.
Our families have gotten together every year as they all served missions and came home, but have missed the last few years. We gathered in Keith and Sara's back yard for dinner and visit together again. What a great evening with the best of friends!

Dinosaur Park

We snuck Kate up on a dinosaur where one fence was down. She wanted to get behind all of them after that. Ooops!

Megan was such a trooper. She was getting very hot in the stroller, but always good for a smile.

This is Dino from the Flinstones.

I took Keith, Sara, Kate, and Megan to the Ogden Dinosaur Park. It was a very hot day, but we had a great time. I was a little afraid Kate would be frightened, but she didn't really seem afraid at all.

West Bountiful Parade

Hayden Johnson

These wonderful people are from the Ogden and Bountiful Baptist church. They have been doing a lot of service around West Bountiful, and my neighbor is one of the recipients. They rebuilt her front porch. It looks great! Thank you to all who have given of their time and service.

I love the West Bountiful Parade! We met Keith, Sara, Kate, Steve (Sara's step dad), Malory, Dustin, and Bryson (Sara's sister, her husband and son)to enjoy the parade. Sara's family had just had their family pictures taken and Megan was very tired so she was at home sleeping and Sara's mom Kathy, stayed to tend - Thanks Kathy!

They threw tons of candy, and after a while we stopped picking it up. It's fun to see so many people you know in the parade and it only lasts about an hour. Kate enjoyed it too, but was a little nervous of the loud sigrens and bands - she wanted to stay on my lap for most of it.

We had a happy 4th of July, with our little family. The girls looked so cute in their patriotic outfits. Aren't those the cutest smiles you've ever seen!

My Heart STOPPED!

I went out a an early morning bike ride this morning. It wasn't too hot, but the wind was very annoying. On my way home a bike passed me so I moved to the right when this snake was coiled up on the edge of the walk way. My heart stopped and every muscle in my body froze. My heart began pounding so hard. I can't believe what those creepy things do to me. I'm glad I wasn't walking I may still be there; frozen to the side walk.

This is what it looked like.I had never seen one this color around here.
